What's your experience with Twitter?
Asked Aug, 13, 2008 by CH Low.

I have been using it for several weeks.

I can see its value for brands. we don't follow others but can use it to communicate effectively with many orbius constituents (http://www.twitter.com/orbius).

But for personal use (twitter ID : chlow) It is so noisy and kills lots of time. Big issue is again - cannot segment connections into groups.

What's your experience?

To me, Twitter is mainly about ego and it's a huge waste of time.

Maybe I'm just generationally impaired, but I really don't get it.

I've thought about it a lot.  Twitter is the ADDization of the internet.  It makes some sense in a few limited cases, but very few.  Of course, those will not be the primary uses of Twitter.

It seems to me Twitter is mainly for people who are so full of themselves they want to alert all their 'followers' of the fact that they just burped.  And it's for those people who care about the fact that you just burped.

Facebook and LinkedIn are now getting in the act with their 'What are you doing?' things.

Maybe I'll change my mind later, but for now it seems like a waste.  It's for people with too much time, or people who don't value their time.

It reminds me of when IM first came out.  I could see the value, but it took a while before people figured out how to use it most effectively.  But I saw how IM would be useful.  I just can't see it with Twitter.

It's like Blackberries.  Do you really want an update every time you get an email?  Do you really want an update every time John C. Dvorak has a thought?  Really?

It wouldn't be so bad if the Twitter feed you followed was of some quality, but do you really want to know it in real time?  I much prefer to get an email with the info in it so I can review it at an apprpriate time of the day.  I suppose you can ignore the Twits until a later time.  Only time will tell.

After 3 weeks of forcing myself to use it and find the best value possible, I see some very interesting value both for marketing/PR and for personal use. I am getting some PR results for Orbius already. But it has its issue  like many Version 1.0 of disruptive technologies. I have began to make notes for Orbius, of course! But on the whole, I am beginning to appreciate its power, which is not very obvious to over 99% of the people who encounter it. It is even a  more baffling encounter than myspace and facebook. C.H.
